Hello Tyree Cooper!

Publicerad Senast uppdaterad

What do you feel about the Swedish people so far?

– Quite honest, I think the Swedish people are ok. I don't have any opinion about someone I don't know nor do I have an opinion about a culture I don't know anything about, except what was put before me at school.

Can you tell me about the genre hip-house?

– Hip-house started in 1988 by DJ Fast Eddie. It was his way of doing what he loved (rapping) and what the label expected of him. He thought, why not combine the desire of the record company (DJ International) and his own natural ability to create something unique. Hip-house has a perfect relation to hip hop but hip-house has survived throughout the pitfalls of the industry, which hip hop hasn't. Hip-house is a cross between hip hop and house, meaning the lyrics have to be tight and flowing and followed by a very good house track. The lyrics must also have some sort of message to them. The message might be to bring a party vibe, like the origins of hip hop, or to convey something. The house track should preferably be as soulful as possible but not like the genre soul.

Did the single ”I Fear the Night” open many doors for you?

– "I Fear the Night" opened the door for me in to Chicago, and also with the few DJ's that were brave enough to play a song that, at the time, had no bass line.

You are doing a gig at Yaki-Da this weekend, are you excited?

– I'm always excited to spin in Sweden. Looking forward to spin with Dj Nibc tomorrow, we always have a good time in the DJ booth.

What can we expect from the gig?

– I always take people on a journey from the old school to the present, deep and jacking house music all night long.

And now the final question, are you still playing the flute?

– No I don't play the flute anymore because I don't have one, and if I did have a flute it would definitely be collecting dust in a corner in my studio…

Thank you Tyree and good luck tonight!
