Hej Mata Hari!

Clandestinogår av stapeln i helgen! Igen? tänker du, men då har du missat något. Det som tidigare var ett par dagars festival är nu utspritt över året, allt för att du ska hinna få så lite musikabstinens som möjligt. Den här gången är det återigen Stora Teatern som är platsen för skådespelet, och bland annat står Barcelonabaserade dj:n Mata Hari bakom skivspelarna.

Mata Hari! How are you doing?

– More than fine. The last 2 years of my life has been so exciting, with the creation of my label Post Worl Industries co-managed with Filastine, one artist very familiar to Clandestino Festival and the city io Gothenburg. For me it's great chance to imprint my personality, personal taste and way of life into a label catalog. I never expexted to have the succes we are achieving lately, this is very good news for the world!

You're coming to Gothenburg this weekend! How do you want us to greet you?

– I hope everybody express themselves freely without boundries. Also I would like to welcome all swedish inmigration comunities to dance in my set. Everybody is welcome and I wish for a night we'll all be dancing together!

And how will you make us feel while you're playing?

– If I succed people will discover music that they never thought existed, from remote places in the world, from Indonesian dancehall to Eastern mombahton to 8 bit trap and Australian footwork.

You've djed in so many great places, but what's the best set you've ever done? And where?

– I remember a quite epic set I had in Barcelona a year ago, for a gathering of all the occupy movents of the world, called Cómo acabar con el mal, or how to end with evil. I specially remember the stage was a huge Darth Vader head and had the dj booth on the top of it. That night was magic for the nerding and for the polithical exchange we had.

How come you started calling yourself Mata Hari?

– Because of the icon of Mata Hari, a dutch bellydancer. First she was being semi-naked on stage, then became a spy and after all dramatically got killed. I share few similarities with her, except the nudity on stage… I feel like a spy in music as I'm crossing many different styles in one set, plus I'm a bellydancer and I love oriental music.

So… Are you aware of the fact that there seems to be a topless dj using that name too? We were quite surprised!

– Oh yes. But I was using the Mata Hari name first, it's like a battle! Haha. Somehow it's funny to me, that means that the people who are asking me to play, will know my career well and know i'm not the stripper.

Before you go… You're living in Barcelona, and therefor obviously an expert on the subject! So: imagine I've got one day in Barcelona, and I've already seen all the touristy stuff. Where do I go and what do I do?

– Well I live in Copenhagen since January 2013, after falling in love with a viking. But in Barcelona I suggest to join any of the protests around, I can almost promise that if people are looking for adrenaline, there they will find a lot! Running after police is quite an unforgettable postcard from Barcelona, sad to say.
