Hi Legowelt, or, well, Danny Wolfers! What are you up to?

– I am working on a movie starring Willy Burns, Dj Overdose and myself. It's a story about two skateboard "dudes", sort of like Bill & Ted's excellent adventure meets Big Lebowski, and their strange gardener who's also an x-professor from the Leiden university. This gardener carries a dark occult secret with him that will change their lives forever!

How come you ended up doing what you're doing? What got you into this kind of music?

– I just wanted to make it, I always want to do things, I like to listen, watch etcetera. I guess I rolled into it from my old computer programming hobby when I was a little kid. On the Amiga computer it was possible to make professional music really easy, I guess that was an important factor.

It seems like there's loads of great Dutch producers around. Why are you guys so good?

– Holland has always been a house and techno minded country, not sure why that is… Maybe electronic music fits the dutch mentality of restrainment, bluntness and individualism. They can go all out crazy with themselves behind a computer and some gear. But it might also because Holland is, or at least used to be, a very multicultural country, lots of different people from all over the world from the dutch ex-colonies bringing in some more culture. And because Holland was pretty well off in the 80's and 90's things like computers, synthesizers, drum machines and samplers were abundand here. Everyone basically knew someone who had a little studio or was

making house records in their bedroom. Maybe it was the pirate radio stations which there were hundreds of in the 1980's and 1990's. Maybe its something else, who knows?!

You're website is just about the most beautiful thing ever. That's not a question, that's just a statement.

– Thank you its been there since the 90's.

Why did you decide to start your own label?

– It was actually kind of a joke or something like that. In 2004 I made a CDR with some weird ambient music (Smackos – The age of Candy Candy) with the label name Strange Life Records, I just made that up on the fly and send it to a friend. The next week it appeared on discogs and the label existed and people started to ask for copies. I made some more releases with weird ambient music and then other artists started to send in their demos and I started to release those. Also some from Sweden, like Luke Eargoggle and Olle Hemmendorf! At a certain point the label became to big, too serious, when really well established artists started to send in demos! It was too much work and I decided to quit it.

Which is the best club in the world?

– The Dystopia in The Hague, a unique place, a "members only" club were all the drinks are free and lots of substances are abundand. A unique crowd mix too, from black metal guys to hockey girls. Anything goes there!

What's your best tip for someone who wants to start djing and producing?

– Make something beautiful, not just some uninspired whack beats. Don't do it for the fame or status. Persevere, train yourself and study hard.

You're playing in Gothenburg on Friday. What can we expect from your set?

– A lot of improvisation, some classics maybe, it can go all directions. I will have the Korg MS20 and the Elektron Analog Rhythm from Gotenborg plus some other bits and pieces.

If someone really wants you to come to their afterparty this weekend, how should they bribe you?

– Not sure, I have to fly really early to Stockholm the next day. I guess that is going to be the after party!
