How are you?

– We're all good! We just got back from five very cold days up in northern Sweden, Kiruna. Very cold. But very beautiful and very inspiring. Finishing off the final touches on the album and getting ready for spring shows.

Wow, did you see the northern lights?

– Markus has before, many times. But the rest of us, no. We were hoping so much to be able to see it up in Kiruna and Abisko, north of Sweden, where they happen all the time. But unfortunately no.

Next time you will, I have a good feeling about it. But you have an album release coming up this spring, tell me about the album!

– The album is titled Human Equal Evolve One and it displays all of Kate Boy's persona. All that we think about, topics we discuss within the band, all of our different inspirations. It's about what the core of being human is for us, connection and equality. It sounds like us. We have found a way to make music together now that is undeniably Kate Boy.

How would you describe your song writing process?

– Every song is different. However, we can definitely say that none of the songs we've ever worked on in this band were constructed on a piano or a guitar, in a more traditional way. Usually it starts with a mood, a sound or a rhythm. Quite often combined. We start the actual song writing quite late in the process, we have focused much more on the rhythm and skeleton of the tracks, longer than we would have done in any other constellation. It's what gives birth to every song for us and what works best for a Kate Boy song.

If Kate Boy was a film, which one would it be?

– 2001: A Space Odyssey

Sweet. What can we look forward to at your gig this weekend?

– We'll be performing almost the whole album. You'll experience a wide Kate Boy palette. Live shows are really great in that sense. It's an opportunity to showcase more than just your songs, with what you wear and how you've constructed the set. We love performing live and we love connecting with our audience. They give us so much love back.
