Hej Karol Conka!

Publicerad Senast uppdaterad

Hi Karoline! How are you?

– Hiii! I'm fine, and you? I'm really happy to be here in Europe one more time.

I’m fine thanks, and we’re happy to have you here! How would you introduce Karol Conka to someone who hasn’t heard of you?

– Usually I call myself Negrita Doida, which means more or less "little black crazy girl". I come from Brazil and make songs with heavy and organic beats.

How did you first get into making music?

– I started to write rhymes when I was only six years old. But it was only for having joy, really innocent. When I was 16, I went to a hip hop party for the first time. Then everything changed. I decided that this was the place where I would be. Then I started to write hip hop songs.

I see. What’s the best moment you’ve had on a stage?

– Earlier this year, I played with Jair Rodrigues, a legend in Brazilian music, in São Paulo. He stood on his hands on stage, with his head on the floor and his feet in the air. When I looked, he was kind of dancing like this despite of being 75 years old. Unfortunately, he died some weeks later. So this was even more special to me.

What’s the most important Portuguese phrase to learn before going to your show?

– "Arrasou na sociedade!!!!" (something like "you rock!")

The club Colors has a different dresscode for every night, and this week it’s orange. If your music was a color, what would it be?

– It would be purple, yellow and pink. I can see these colors in my songs, in my life.

Right now you’re in the middle of your European Tour, what happens after that?

– I'm coming back to Brazil to continue the promotion of my first album, Batuk Freak. There's a video clip on its way and I'm already having my first thoughts on my new album.
