Hej Jurassic 5!

Hi Jurrassic 5! Who's representing you today?

– Hi, and thanks for having us! This is DJ Nu-Mark.

You split up a few years ago, and now you're back together again. What was it that made you bring back Jurassic 5 again?

– I suppose it was because offers kept coming in for us to play. We really weren't ready to form as a group again but the offers persisted and of course got larger and larger until the Coachella offer came in last year. At that point we had taken a break for seven years and were able to clear our head a bit, work on solo material and were ready to give that festival a performance. After the performance, we decided to work more with each other to see what would happen musically.

What was it like when you first started making music together again?

– Well, our focus has been on creating an energetic show that leaves our fans with something special to talk about. We really haven't spent much time in the studio creating other than brushing up The Way We Do It. We've been trying to find new and exciting ways to present our material on stage at the moment.

What can we expect from your gig on Thursday?

– I don't want to give away what we're doing plus explaining a show via text is dull at best, lol. I suppose for the people interested in seeing J5, just show up ready to have a good time because we'll be giving you 100% of our energy. We feel very fortunate to have this second opportunity to play for such amazing people again!

If we wanna make you feel right at home here in Gothenburg, how should we greet you when you come?

– Just be yourselves. We're really not expecting much from you. Would be great to see you at the show however! Aside from that we'll be doing our best to entertain Gothenburg!

On The Way We Do It you've sampled The White Stripes's song My Doorbell. It's obviously quite far away from the kind of music your making, but what was it about that song that you liked?

– I'd have to disagree with this. We've sampled rock, hip hop, african, latin, jazz and of course soul/funk. This might be the most popular group we've sampled but it's very in line with our sound and audience. If you go to a J5 show you'll see alternative rock faces in the crowd all day long. My Doorbell has a great melodic piano line similar to other the types of rock/funk recordings we've sampled in the past, like Concrete School Yard, Improvise and Where We At. Great song!

Have you always been looking for influences in different genres?

– Our entire career. If you listen to songs like Swing Set or Acetate Prophets it's apparent that we're not just digging in the soul bin at the record stores. I think anyone who is familiar with our music can hear and feel that. It's so important to listen to as much good music from around the world as possible. Every genre has so much to offer us.

What are your plans for the nearest future?

– See you on tour. We're taking it one day at a time this go round. Hopefully we can get this DVD we're working on a chance to see the light of day too!!
