Hej Israel Nash Gripka!

Det är inte varje dag Lokal ordnar konserter, och kanske framför allt inte sådana som säljer ut så snabbt att en extraspelning måste sättas in. Men det är precis vad den lilla baren gör på lördag. Då kommer Israel Nash Gripka till Göteborg och gör två intima konserter under en och samma kväll på Kyrkogatan. Jag pratade turné och visdomsord med Israel, och lyckades dessutom lura till mig en inbjudan till hans nästa inspelnings-session.

– I'm doing really well. I'm in Munich today on day 15 of the solo tour. It's been a great time, but I'm excited to see fans and friends in Sweden. Off to Stockholm tomorrow and Gothenburg on Saturday.

How has the tour treated you so far?

– The tour has been awesome. Holland, UK, Belgium, Germany… all wonderful. I must say I had some awesome Newcastle fans. They had just enough booze in them to sing every word of almost every song I played that night. Maybe I could hire them as back up singers or something.

You're doing two gigs here in Gothenburg on Saturday, could you tell us a little bit about that night?

– Very excited about the Gothenburg shows. It's going to be simple and quiet. I really wanted to go for something very intimate so I could share my songs and share a special time with the fans. Also, I am going to play some brand new songs that I'm really excited about…

You were brought up by a southern Baptist minister for a father, which for a Swedish person sounds almost exotic. How has that affected the way you make music?

– I thing that my parents are great. They really encouraged me to play music and turned me on to a lot of music in the process. They had a few rules that I had to follow when I was younger and living in their house, but I'd say all together, that I'm fairly well rounded. I might border on having too much fun, but not too too much fun.

Reading about the surroundings in which you're last album was recorded, pretty much makes anyone wanna become a part of your next recording sessions. So what have you got planned for those? Will it be all good friends and camp fires like the last one? And also… Can I come?

– Sorry, Karin. You're too late! We just tracked a new album at my ranch in TX. I mean just tracked as in, it was recorded in September. All of the guys in the band came down to my ranch and stayed there for a few weeks to make this new album. Really excited to share it with everyone, but until it comes out, I'll play some new ones from the record on Saturday. But you should definitely come out to the next record. You have an invite!

Might take you up on that! What are your hopes for the Gothenburg concerts?

– The Gothenburg crowd is simply awesome. They have a ton of energy and the more energy they have, the more energy I have. If I were a superhero, my energy would be totally based on the crowd. If the Gothenburg crowd has enough of it, maybe I could fly… or at least play really good and have a great time. I am prepared for a great time indeed.

Finally… Please leave the readers with a final word of wisdom!

– Hmmmmm……anything? I don't know. I guess to see the beauty in all that we do. It is very easy to be negative and down about things that go wrong or fail to meet your expectations. I like to see the beauty. And it's everywhere. So check it out and relax. You're either living or dying. Let's live.
