Hiya Johannes from French Films! What are you up to?

Hey there! Just getting ready to play in Copenhagen.

Previously this year you released your second album. How'd you say White Orchid differs from Imaginary Future?

The sound is slightly darker and the tracks are more diverse. I mean, yeah we're still playing those three chords, but i guess we're expanding a bit what French Films is all about.

Why french films?

Santtu saw a dream where Nicholas Cage told him that our band name should be French Films.

I've learned that you should always trust Nicholas Cage on that sort of thing. So which french film is the best?

I don't think I have a favorite French movie. But Joni said Le Haine is his.

You're coming to Gothenburg this weekend. If there's anyone out there who hasn't heard you before, why should they come see you?

I'd like to think that IF someone misses our show in Gothenburg, they might feel sorry afterwards. Come if you like guitar music!

You've been touring all over the world, and at Djungeltrumman we just love a good (or bad) rock'n'roll tale. What's the weirdest/best/funnest story you've got?

Well there's a lot of stuff happening on tours. For example I missed our flight to New York (through Miami) in June, when we we're going to play our first US shows ever. Because of partying. Not really a great reason. So I missed the flight, had no battery on my cell phone and no money. I was pretty sure I ruined our first US visit. And yet somehow in two hours I was flying straight to New York and managed to be at our hotel hours before the rest of the band. Apparently karma doesn't exist.

Hey, you won European Border Breakers Award (man, that's a hard name to remember), congratulations! If you got to pass it on to another finnish band next year, who'd get it?

There's a few new Finnish bands I think are pretty cool. I think Black Lizard's debut album is very good. Also their live shows have been great too. Check them out!

I will, thanks! Would your music have sounded any different, if you were from Sweden?

Maybe. I don't know.. I used to listen to Swedish bands back in the day. Like The Hellacopters, early Mando Diao, The Hives etc… But I guess nowadays Swedish bands play more electronic-based music? Yeah, I don't know!

What's your plans for the rest of 2013?

We're going to write some new material now and maybe visit a studio for a session in the following months. Try to rehearse as much as we can. And play a couple of shows here and there. You know, basic stuff actually!
