Hej Eddie Richards!

Hi Eddie, how are you doing today?

– Great, thanks!

If there's anyone out there who doesn't know who you are, how would you introduce yourself?

– I'm a house and techno dj /producer from the UK and I've been playing music for almost 30 years, and making music for the last 15.

Are you very evil? Like, should we be afraid-evil?

– Haha. I'm a normal guy. The name came from me being billed for a Halloween party a long time ago.

How did you first start djing?

– When I was at school I started a mobile disco with a friend, playing at weddings and such.

Do you think the dj's role has changed since you first started out?

– Yes its changed a lot…There weren't many dj:s mixing when I started and they weren't considered anything special at all. It wasn't until after the rave scene exploded worldwide around 1988 that dj:s travelled to play at parties abroad

And how do you feel about the fact that a lot of the house music out there is so commersial these days?

– The high costs involved in making music in the 80s filtered out the less serious individuals and lack of internet meant it was difficult to get your music distributed and heard in many parts of the world. Nowadays its relatively cheap and easy so I guess house music was bound to get more commercial as virtually anyone can have a go.

You've been called Britains godfather of house and techno, but who is the future? What great brittish dj:s are we missing out on here in Gothenburg?

– To be honest I don't get a chance to hear many other UK dj:s. I'm mainly working abroad and the dj:s playing along side me are locals. I haven't heard anyone yet that's blown me away, experience counts for a lot in my opinion and obviously the younger up and coming dj:s don't have that yet.

If someone are going to London for a weekend and wanna experience the best of the city's night life, what tips and recommendations would you give them?

– Well check out Fabric while you're in town, it's really one of the best clubs in the world. There's always plenty of smaller after party events going on especially in the shoreditch area. London is still the music capital of the world and you can find whatever you want!

And finally… what's in the nearest future for you?

– Im still getting asked to dj so i'll be touring as usual, and after several years break I think it's the right time to start putting out my own music again. The scene is more open to groovy and melodic tracks.

Cool, good luck with everything! And have a good time in Gothenburg!
