Hej Dragonfly Festival!

På lördag är det Andra Långdagen! Ja, inte för att vi tror att du missat det eller något, men vi kan säga det hur många gånger som helst. Tidigare idag skrek vi det från GP-husets tak, till och med. Vi kommerspendera dagenutanför Pavement, där vi tillsammans medNordic VibrationsochDragonfly Festivallyssnar på livemusik, dricker öl, sänder radio och snackar skit. Strax efter att det blev klart insåg vi en grej. Vi vet egentligen inte vad Dragonfly är, eller vilka som står bakom denna tillställning. En intervju var på sin plats!

Hiya Crispin and Kathryn, of Dragonfly. How are you?

– We are great thanks! A little hectic perhaps, so many amazing things to organize for Dragonfly 2013! Only 11 weeks to go now till August 16th!!

And almost more importantly: WHO are you?

– We are an English couple who moved to the countryside of Sweden 5 years ago, to follow our artistic dreams! Kathryn is a jewellery designer and I am a sound engineer, producer and musician and of course we are also two of the founding members of the Dragonfly Festival

Tell me a little bit about Dragonfly!

– Dragonfly Festival is a 3-day multi-arts festival set in the stunning location of a recreated prehistoric village. It started as a silly topic of conversation between us and three friends, "what if we had a festival in the woods?" and now it is in it's 5th year and has a following of over 1000 people, with a line-up of over 30 bands, a dozen visual artists, a stack of short films, tons of workshops and activities and more things than I can even stretch my brain to remember. It’s now a community run project, with more than 15 core organizers and hundreds of volunteers and contributors, working not only in Sweden but all over the world!

I just watched the film about the festival, and it got me super excited! Is it that magical in reality?

– YES! I really am so glad the film managed to capture a little bit of the magic! We had a tough time finding enough footage to use but our fantastic editor Tim at Nordic Vibrations really pulled it together! The festival has such a magical feeling it's hard to describe without sounding like a loved up hippie! Don’t worry, you’ll understand what I mean when you see it for yourself.

Oh, and also, what's this about it being set in a pre-historic village?

– It's always hard to make a big enough point of just how amazingly beautiful the festival site is! Ekehagens Forntidsby, is a recreation pre-historic village full with straw roof mud huts, a lake with hollow log canoes, open fires, acres of forest and the most magical feeling. We host activities in all the houses so they are not just for looking at. In the huts we have an art gallery, acoustic stage, cinema and an English pub!

If I gave you guys 10 million kronor, and you had to spend it all on this years Dragonfly, what would you do?

– Hmmmm….Pay all of the amazing people who make the festival possible first! There are so many people working to make the festival happen now and not one of us gets a penny. We would properly pay all of the artists and collaborators, like we wish we could. Oh, and then after that we would build a whole village for the audience to live in, build a giant wooden bandstand, book some even more amazing bands and fill the place full of art and then give away tickets for free! And that’s just for starters!

On Saturday, you and Nordic Vibrations are hanging out with us at Andra Långdagen. What's your plans for the day?

– We are super excited to be hanging out with all of you on Andra långdagen! We are going to be bringing with us a posse of Dragonfliers from the countryside, for everyone to meet and chat to. We will have live performances from Sebastien Freij, Elias Bolander and Huset plus dj sets from Satta Vibe Sound Sytsem, Jay Star Seven and we hope that you'll be spinning a few tunes for us also. But not only that we will also be giving away free waffles and weekend ticket giveaways to whoever comes down and donates to our crowd funding campaign. You can see it here.

Good times! Hey, I heard you got something else planned prior to the festival though?

– We surely do! We can't give you all the details yet but we are planning another free event in Gothenburg with a bunch more bands, a spattering of djism and some more fantastic giveaways. It's going to be in early August and we'll be sneaking out info via our Facebook group.

Finally… Tell me in exactly 11 words why no one should miss out on Dragonfly!

– It will fill you with passion and a lust for life!
