Hej Basia Bulat!

How are you?

– Very well, thank you! How are you?!

Great, thank you! It's friday and I just got paid, so everythings just perfect. What's on your mind at the moment?

– Going to sleep after a very fun show at Scandic Central

… and in general?

– Oh you know, life and love

What would you say that most of your songs are about?

– See above …

How has your music changed since On My Darling? And how have you changed?

– That's a big question! I think I have changed quite a bit but it's hard for me to give an objective opinion about that! I think perhaps I could say I feel more confident in myself, and hopefully that translates into the music as well.

We love a good story, what's your best on tour-memory?

– Actually one of the best tour memories I have is from a show I did in Goteborg a few years ago. In a church as part of the way out west festival. That show is burned into my memory forever because of the amazing energy of the people that night, and I think it was the most genuine call for an encore I've ever experienced. So it was quite moving for me. Nights like that are what makes a musician's life worth living.

If you were to quit the music business all together and start a political party that dealt with just one particular issue, what would that issue be?

– Hm, I wouldn't/couldn't even in a hypothetical world quit music! I can only speak to my own experience as a citizen/voter in Canada but I think most major issues there are interconnected with others. I worry that the tendency right now is to be too reductive and simplistic about the issues we're facing and I feel the national conversation right now suffers for it… But I'm just a musician so what do I know!

We find ourself always listening to the same playlists at the office, could we ask you for some guidance? Anything you think we really really need to listen to?

– U.S. Girls' "28 Days" and "Dead Deer" by Evening Hymns, and I've been listening a lot to Owen Pallet's last album, Heartland, which I'm sure you know and love but go listen to it again!

We will turn it on right away! Thank you!
