Hej Aries Spears!

Svenskar har utvecklat en näst intill osund relation till amerikaner. Vi tror på allt de säger, särskilt om det är på en rätt fräck dialekt som vi nästan kan härma. När det gäller humor har de däremot inte alltid stått lika högt i kurs, men Aries Spears har ändå lyckats charma Europa, och reser land och rike runt och skojar till det. På onsdag får Göteborg ta del av roligheterna, när han besöker Lorensbergsteatern.

You've been described as a "comedy wonderchild", does that put any pressure on you at all?

– No, because I've been doing stand up for 25 years now, so I've evolved a lot since my start! The only pressure is to be better!

When did you realise that you're hilarious?

– When I started getting in trouble for making people laugh! My classmates would come to me in groups so they could watch me make jokes!

What makes a good stand-up comedian?

– Someone who knows their audience, has great timing and demands the audiences attention. Great stand-ups are born with it. It can't be taught.

What's the worst thing you can do on stage?

– The worst thing you can do is to let 'em see you sweat! Once they see that everybody in the crowd becomes a shark, and they can all smell blood in the water.

What's the best moment you've had on stage?

– Best moment., wow… I liken everything to sports! Particularly basketball. Every time I have one of those shows where I'm in a zone where everything goes great and I get a standing ovation, it's like putting on a Michael Jordan type performance, like I just scored 50 points! There's nothing like it. Any moment is a great moment if you do good enough a job to get laid afterwards!

Haha, a goal as good as any! There are a lot of aspiring comedians out there. A lot. And I'm sure you're guilty of inspiring quite a few of them. What's your best advice to making it big?

– PERSEVERANCE! Again I think anything you pursue in life is going to be a fight and there are times when your back will be against the ropes (boxing) and you have to cover up and take the punishment. The mark of a great champion is to take the hits and come out swinging when the bell rings! Be in it for the long hall!

What can we expect to hear from you tomorrow?

– Good question!

Are there any parts of the routine that works really well in Europe, but never in the US? Or the other way around?

– The impressions, accents, and sex material work well in Europe! Stuff about race in terms of black and white is difficult overseas, because while some Europeans kind of know about race in America they can't fully understand because there's no black people there for them to relate or have issues with! I come from a country where whites stare at me cause I'm black, then when I come to Europe, at least certain parts, I have whites who stare cause I'm the only black.
