Amerikanen Andrew Bird har musicerat sig in i många människors hjärtan, alltsedan debutplattan kom på 90-talet. Om man säger att kritikerna allt som oftast brukar hylla denne artist sönder och samman, underdriver man. Imorgon kommer fågeln till Pusterviks Stora Klubben för att ge göteborgarna en stor dos talang och toner. Kanske är detta boten mot höstmörkret? Djungeltrumman slog en signal för att kolla läget inför giget.

Hello Andrew, how are you?

– I'm hanging in there.

For those who don´t know, who is Andrew Bird?

– Not as serious as you might think.

How has the tour been so far?

– It's been good. We've been jumping between northern and southern Europe so it's been a study in contrast with the current economic crisis. Some stereotypes exist for a reason. In Portugal, Spain and Italy the audience is very expressive. In the north fairly passive and analytical. Europe is like the two halves of the brain. But most brains have a lobe that mediates the two to keep from becoming bipolar.

I think you have become more grandiose in your music lately, why?

– I disagree. I think it's more honest and down to earth these days but I can't speak to how it translates.

What type of music does Andy Bird prefer to listen to?

– It depends on the season and the time of the day but I listen to a lot of jazz from the 30's to the 50's and gospel, blues and country from the same era. When it gets cold and dark I like some classical and in the summer I like Malian kora music.

If you could only use one instrument for the rest of your music career, which one would you chose?

– Fiddle.

Who makes the best folk music in the the world?

– It's not a competition.

What do you think about the folk music's future? Is it a dying genre?

– The only thing that can kill folk is the good intentioned efforts to preserve or save it. It's the music that humans make to tell each other their stories. It will always exist despite ourselves.

Isn't it lonely to run solo all the time?

– Yes, that's why I'm traveling with my band this time.

What type of bird are you?

– Sparrow.

What are your hopes for the Gothenburg concert?

Rock the house!
