Hej Allaby!

Allaby! How are you?

– I'm fine, thanks for asking.

You're coming to Gothenburg next week. What can we expect from your set?

– A fat chunk of driving tech trance, starting slow and building intensity. Mostly new music including a new track written by Gothenburg's own Atmos and myself.

How come you wanna spend Christmas day here? Shouldn't you be off eating brussel sprouts and roast potatoes somewhere?

– I felt like meatballs this year.

Why did you start out making music? Do you have some kind of classical background, or has it always been about the electronic music?

– Why? The Beatles. My mum had an amazing collection, As a kid I used to sit in front of the record player all day listening to them. Pretty much my whole family played an instrument or two.

So, when did you start?

– I started as a drummer in a jazz band, aged 11. Was playing rock in pubs and clubs aged 14. Then I discovered techno and started my own club night in Manchester, I think I was 18. I had an electronic band with live instruments that gigged in Manchester for a couple of years before finally concentrating on solo stuff.

Everyone knows Manchester used to have an amazing scene for dance music, but what's it like today? Still as good?

– In the 90's it was fucking epic. Maybe the best city in the world for music and parties. Today, I'm not so sure. Most of the great clubs are gone. It seems to cater to a more clean cut crowd. The Warehouse Project is probably the best known club, but it's nothing like the Manchester warehouse parties of old. The city is a lot safer now but something was lost in the process. Still I recommend anyone to go there, you will have a great time and come home with a story or two.

What great dj's from your hometown are we missing out on in Sweden? If there's a someone out there who wants to book an up-and-coming dj/producer from Manchester, who should they get?

– Manchester is mostly a breeding ground for guitar bands rather than electronic acts, but I really enjoyed Youandewan this year. I think he's from Leeds which is just north of Manchester. Also my good friend Aris Rodis.

If you got to put together your own festival, and had all the money in the world to do so, where would it be and who'd be on the lineup?

– Somewhere in the the South of England. Radiohead, Underworld, Daft Punk, Minilogue, Carl Craig, Metallica, Stone Roses, Maetrik, Oasis (re-union!), Aphex Twin, Disclosure, Stimming and many more. Get your tickets quick, it's gonna sell out fast.

You've played a bunch of really big gigs, but which one has been the most fun of them all?

– Glastonbury or the late, great Glade Festival in the UK. There are so many amazing parties around the world but the UK festivals just have an extra level of hedonism and debauchery which you don't really find elsewhere.

Finally… What's your plans for 2014?

– Release's with Nano Records and Atmos' Atmotech. I've been writing for a different project also but I'll keep that under wraps for now.
