Avalon Emerson
Hi Avalon! How are you? – Fantastic, I just came home to two boxes of Discogs shipments, so I’d say it’s a good day.
That does sound good indeed. Tell us about your latest release, Cybernetic Edits! – Well the Cybernedits is a little digital series of edits/remixes that either I make and play out, or that friends of mine have made that I love and think other people should hear. I just released volume 3, a handful of fun little things I’ve been enjoying lately.
Alright! When did you start making your own music, and why? – I started out recording garage bands during high school in my suburban little Arizona town, which ignited my interest in multitrack recording and production in general. I was captivated by what you could do completely by yourself on your computer, so when I started throwing parties, DJing and getting into dance music a little later on, making my own tracks was a natural step. I’m still infatuated with the endless virtual singularity of making music these days.
How come you moved to Berlin? – I’m fortunate enough to join in on this whole Berlin youth mecca. Meet different kinds of people. Learn a new language.
If we happen to end up in the German capital this spring/summer, what should we absolutely NOT miss? – Perhaps a Sunday afternoon in the Berghain Garten. Try and hang out with a chill dog in a park. That’s the best.
And musicwise, what should we check out right now? – My fav new records are Koehler’s forthcoming one on Skudge, Minor Science on Whities, and the new Sound Stream is hella beautiful.
Tell us about your weirdest gig! – The party gods have mercifully spared me from anything too crazy, like I haven’t DJed a rural Irish wedding yet. Though Chrissy Murderbot certainly made that sound kinda fun.
What are your plans after the Swedish mini tour? – Taking June off from playing shows to finish some music projects.
Good luck with that, and hope you’ll have a nice stay in Gothenburg! – Thank you! The last time I was in Sweden it was in early February when it was cold and dark, though full of lovely people and pepparkakor cookies.
